AT-HOME DRY EYE TREATMENT

At Bonney Lake Family Eye Care, we offer different ways to manage your dry eye symptoms. One of the most important part of dry eye management is continuing at-home therapy just like brushing and flossing your teeth. Dr. Kaur is a dry eye specialist trained to come up with a personalized dry eye treatment plan unique to your situation.

Omega-3

Supplements

Studies suggest that taking omega 3-fatty acid supplements can help reduce dry eye symptoms. The omega-3 supplement helps the oil glands produce better quality oil. Medical grade dry eye blends are specially formulated for better absorption into your bloodstream, which allows them to be more effective.

Eye Drops & Lid Scrubs

Eye Drops

Eye drops can help with dry eye symptoms by keeping your eyes lubricated. Not all over-the-counter eye drops are the same. Dr.Kaur can recommend drops that act as a replacement for the lipid layer of the tears, providing oil that your body isn't able to produce.

Non-Prescription Eye Drops

  • Retaine MGD - Works with all three layers of the tear film

  • Retaine PM - Keeps your eyes lubricated while you sleep.

  • Refresh Tears

  • Systane Complete

Lid Scrubs

Your eyelid margin is rarely cleaned, which causes a build-up of debris made up of skin cells, oil, and even makeup. This creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow and build-up on the eyelid margin. This bacteria can cause irritation, redness of lid margin, itching, and sandy-gritty sensation.

By regularly cleaning the lid margin with lid scrub, you can help to control the build-up of debris, which decreases the amount of bacteria that can cause your dry eye symptoms.

Warm Compresses & Blinking Exercises

Warm Compresses

Warm compresses are designed to help open meibomian glands, and to liquefy the oils inside. This allows the oil to flow more freely from the glands into the tear film. It is recommended to use the warm compresses on daily basis for 7-10 minutes.

Blinking

Exercises

Lack of blinking or partial blinking can further clog the meibomian glands. It is recommended to do blinking exercises throughout the day to help push oils out and across the surface of the eye.

The Blinking Exercise:

  1. Close your eyes completely.

  2. Squeeze your lids together. Do not scrunch your face or eyebrows.

  3. Open your eyes and relax your muscles.

  4. Repeat this process 10 times.

  5. Make sure to complete blinking exercises every hour or several times throughout the day.

If you are tired of using at-home or over-the-counter therapies without relief, we offer several in-office treatments as well
