Your eyelid margin is rarely cleaned, which causes a build-up of debris made up of skin cells, oil, and even makeup. This creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow and build-up on the eyelid margin. This bacteria can cause irritation, redness of lid margin, itching, and sandy-gritty sensation.
By regularly cleaning the lid margin with lid scrub, you can help to control the build-up of debris, which decreases the amount of bacteria that can cause your dry eye symptoms.

Warm Compresses & Blinking Exercises
Warm compresses are designed to help open meibomian glands, and to liquefy the oils inside. This allows the oil to flow more freely from the glands into the tear film. It is recommended to use the warm compresses on daily basis for 7-10 minutes.
Lack of blinking or partial blinking can further clog the meibomian glands. It is recommended to do blinking exercises throughout the day to help push oils out and across the surface of the eye.
The Blinking Exercise:
Close your eyes completely.
Squeeze your lids together. Do not scrunch your face or eyebrows.
Open your eyes and relax your muscles.
Repeat this process 10 times.
Make sure to complete blinking exercises every hour or several times throughout the day.
